Puppy mills breed thousands and even millions of puppies a year, and those dogs all across the country have to go through suffering and misery every single day of their short little lives. This may seem unreal, but it happens every single day in America. Buy puppies from shelters and rescues and not from pet shops, which support puppy mills and the profit of the commercial breeders.

Puppy Mills
What a Puppy Mill is

Puppy mills are horrible operations just ran for profits. It is a large breeding operation sometimes called "breeding farms." They are outdoors in very bad conditions. Most of the dogs there spend their entire life breeding in small cages with very unsanitary conditions living in their feces, often in wire bottom cages so it's easier to clean up their waste. Wire bottom cages hurt their paws and they remain in there for months or even years. They get very little food, water, socialization, vet care, etc. Puppy mills are very overcrowded so they barely have any room to move. In most cases, when the mother dogs can't produce a profitable liter size, they are killed. The people who run the puppy mills are called commercial breeders. The Amish run a lot of puppy mills too. Puppy mills are operated for profit and money and they don't care at all about the well-being of the dogs there. These poor animals can't do anything about it, so we are the only ones that can speak up for them.
